alterations and additions to a 1940's workers cottage to provide for a growing family. the extension embraces a large pecan tree with the two arms projecting into the rear garden to meet it. with the living arm continuing at the level of the existing house, it hovers above the garden, stopping short to admire the tree. the sleeping arm falls with the site and stretches its way past the tree so it may turn and look back at it. a series of resultant courtyards on the boundary provide for cubby houses, light, shade and privacy.
